How to make money from your Fitbit and other activity trackers

So, you've started a health and fitness plan. Like many others, you have probably purchased an activity tracker to help assist you in achieving your weight loss and fitness goals. Some people embrace their activity trackers to their full capacity, and others leave theirs lost and lonely, collecting dust in the bottom drawer.

But what if I told you, you could be making money from your Fitbit and other activity trackers?

Yes, you read that correctly. You could be earning money whilst sweating up a storm. Here's a list of websites/apps that will help you earn a buckeroo or two whilst going for your morning run.

Runister is an app that pays you for going on a run. Once you have completed ten runs you are able to upgrade to Runister Pro and this is where you can start earning the dollars. Depending on your level, you can earn different amounts per km you run. The money is then simply transferred to Paypal where you can spend your hard earn runs to your heart's content.

Free to join, Leap4life will help play an active role in managing your health. To earn points, all you have to do is track your activity and challenge yourself. Participating in events and challenging your friends will score you extra points. Score enough points and you could earn yourself a Woolworths voucher.

Dietbet sets a goal of losing 4% of your body weight in 4weeks. To begin, you place a "Bet" on yourself (e.g. $30) and you weigh in. After the 4weeks are up, you weigh in again and if you haven't lost 4% of your body weight then you lose your bet. However, if you have successfully lost the weight, you receive your bet back PLUS split the unsuccessful bets with the winners!

StepBet is similar to DietBet and requires you to place a "Bet" for motivation! StepBet's focus is to increase your steps using money as a motivator and each week of the game requires you to have four Active Days and two Stretch Days (and one day off!). If you miss your weekly goal you are automatically out of the running. At the end of the challenge, all winners receive their bet back plus split the winnings of the those who did not succeed!

The Pact app is an effective way to help lose weight and keep on top of your fitness and health goals. You offer an amount as your "Pact" and then track your fitness plan via GPS/activity trackers and photos of your food. You earn money through keeping your Pact and winning the money off those who don't! (US only):

Achievemint is a free app that uses a system to calculate your activities and then provides a Visa gift card as a reward! You gain points whilst doing fitness activities and also through sharing healthy tips on Instagram and twitter! You can even score points for sleeping (Now that is my kind of app!)
